Tech Review: iPhone 13 review: Apple delivers a delightful upgrade #drphonenz #iPhonerepair #nzrepair

The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini aren't radically different, but that's part of the charm.

The iPhone 13 and 13 Mini received a number of significant upgrades including new cameras, a bigger battery, more storage and a brighter screen. The iPhone 13 is a delightful upgrade to last year's already wonderful iPhone 12 family. Some will be disappointed because it's not radically different from previous models, but that's actually part of the charm. Familiarity has been one of the keys to Apple's success with the iPhone, and the iPhone 13 and 13 Mini are those same reliable friends that seemingly never change.

The iPhone 13 starts at $829 (£779, AU$1,349) and the 13 Mini at $729 (£679, AU$1,199). That's for the base model, which comes with 128GB of storage. If you buy and activate your phone on a carrier plan, that price drops by $30, and that's before adding on the impressive deals from carriers.

For all intents and purposes Apple launched two phones in 2021: The iPhone 13 and the iPhone 13 Pro. If you want a small version of the iPhone 13, get an iPhone 13 Mini. If you need an iPhone 13 Pro with a bigger screen and battery, get the 13 Pro Max. I spent five days testing all four phones and decided to share my results in two reviews. This one covers the iPhone 13 and 13 Mini; I wrote a separate one on the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max. You can also compare all four iPhone 13 models here.

Last year's iPhone 12 is still around at a lower price. If you're upgrading from an iPhone 11 or older, remember the iPhone 12 with 128GB of storage is only $50 less than the iPhone 13. That means it's easy to climb that upgrade ladder from an iPhone 12 up to a 13. Apple's clever pricing aside, you definitely get more than $50 of improvements with the 13.

I'm happy the iPhone Mini lived to see another year. If the iPhone 13 is understated, the 13 Mini just wants to be the shy kid in the corner of the sandbox. As a proud iPhone 12 Mini owner, I'm tempted to upgrade just to get the extra battery life. But whether you're due for your two-year (or more) upgrade or have been sitting on a much older phone, the iPhone 13 and 13 Mini are both solid choices.

This year it will almost certainly be the iPhone 7 that's revealed and the online rumour mill is going into overdrive ahead of the announcement.

Along with comments and predictions from industry analysts and the specialised tech media, there have been several supposed leaked images.

Why does your iPhone have those lines across the back? A tech mystery explained

Here are the coolest things you can do with the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. Auckland "iPhone Repair" Dr Phone, Queen Street, Unlock

So you bought the new iPhone. Whether you’re jumping to Apple for the first time or upgrading from an iPhone 5S, you could probably benefit from learning the features, tips, and tricks that will help you get the most out the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. The arrival of the new phones also brings with it a handful of must-try apps that take advantage of the new hardware and software improvements.
We’ve broken down all of the steps required to dive head first into the iPhone 6S, organized into three neat categories: apps to download, iOS 9 features to try, and settings that help you stay in control. Let's dive in!

Apps to download

If you've checked the "updates" section of the App Store this week, you know every developer under the sun is now optimizing for both iOS 9 and the new iPhones. As of today, a huge number of apps — more than we could include here — have been updated to add support for 3D Touch, Spotlight search, and a slew of other Apple features. More are coming. But this group includes both classics and newer apps that take advantage of the iPhone 6S software and hardware in ways that should help them earn their spot on your home screen.

PERI

If there’s anything besides selfies you’ll be using the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus’ improved front-facing camera for, it’sPeriscope. The Twitter-owned live-streaming app is a fast-growing place to drop quick and easy video updates that broadcast to other mobile devices and the web. With Apple’s substantial front-facing camera upgrade from 1.2 megapixels to 5, you’ll look a bit better for the crowd.

MONUMENT VALLEY

Much has been written about Monument Valley, the M.C. Escher-inspired mobile puzzle game that’s as hauntingly beautiful as it is geometrically complex. It’s still one of the best games you can buy on iOS, and now it takes full advantage of the larger iPhones' displays. If you haven’t picked up UsTwo Games’ eight-chapter expansion,Forgotten Shores, it’s a great way to get reacquainted with the best of iOS gaming.

DARKROOM

The new iPhones, now with 12-megapixel cameras, are arguably the best photo-taking handsets on the market. Yet Apple’s Photos app, while improved, still leaves something to be desired in the editing department.  Darkroom, a free app for iOS, fills the void with custom filter-making, ultra-snappy processing, and an easy-to-use crop toolkit. The $3.99 Pro Kit unlocks superior curves, color, and tone tools, as well as the ability to share your custom filters with an embeddable link to your Instagram account.

POCKET

Pocket is one of the best article-saving apps out there, with a slick interface and easy-to-use mobile and desktop bookmarklets and extensions for saving everything you don't (and maybe never will) have time to read. Pocket items will now pop up in iOS 9 Spotlight searches, letting you jump right into articles without having to open the app first.

WORKFLOW

Workflow, one of the best launcher apps on iOS, lets you create easy sets of shortcuts that carry out a wide variety of mobile tasks. It's similar to IFTTT, but Workflow isn't restricted to two-step actions. You can create seemingly endless strings of instructions, from getting directions to the nearest coffee shop to sending a message with the last screenshot you took. 3D Touch support now means you can access those workflows more quickly by peeking into the app on the home screen.

OUTLOOK

Microsoft’s Outlook app is a rare piece of iOS software from the Windows maker that’s arguably superior to both Apple- and Google-made competitors. Outlook marries the creative workflow of Dropbox’s Mailbox — swiping to postpone emails, an "inbox zero" approach — to a minimalist design with calendar and address book tabs. As now it takes advantage of iOS 9’s improved Spotlight search, letting you dig deep into your inbox right from the iPhone home screen.

Apple iPad Pro review: Big and powerful, but... (Auckland iPhone, iPad Repair)

Here we are. Apple, the same company that once swore off styluses, and dismissed hybrid PCs as experiments gone wrong, is now selling a laptop/tablet mashup of its own. One that accepts pen input, at that. The new 12.9-inch iPad Pro went on sale last week, and though it is, in a sense, just an oversized iPad, it's also the closest thing we've seen yet to a hybrid device from Apple. With the screen real estate of a laptop, and the speed of a laptop, and various keyboard accessories allowing you to type on it like a laptop, the Pro seems like it might indeed be able to replace your notebook. In fact, Tim Cook himself has suggested as much in interviews. But with a starting price of $799, it isn't for everybody. And even then, it won't replace your laptop so much as complement it.

Pros

Well-built

Robust performance

Bright, pixel-dense screen

Lighter than you'd expect

Smooth, precise pen input

Surprisingly good audio

Long battery life

Cons

Expensive, especially with the accessories sold separately

Still heavy compared to other tablets

No mouse support; none of the keyboards have touchpads

Screen angle isn't adjustable on any of the keyboards

iOS 9 doesn'tmultitask as wellas desktop operating systems

Nowhere to store the Pencil

Summary

The iPad Pro isn't for everyone: It performs well, but iOS 9 isn't as adept at multitasking as a laptop operating system, and the lack of any mouse input can get tiresome. That said, its fast performance and smooth pen input could be useful for creative pros who need a way to stay productive while on the go. The Pro won't replace your computer, but for a certain kind of user, it could be a handy supplement.
